Many people have concerns with how reliable vegetable oil is and its influence on the car engine. The original design of the engine developed by Rudolph Diesel could easily run on vegetable oil. It made its debut in 1900 at the World Exhibition in Paris but it really never caught on because petroleum diesel was cheaper to produce. This is the reason why vegetable oil can nonetheless be used to run modern diesel engines.

It is difficult to determine how well vegetable oil performs, because of conflicting testimonies from car and static caravans owners who have switched. Some say that coking of the engine will be sped up by vegetable oil, while some claim there is no effect on the engine. A major problem then results in being the question of reliability, but most people trying vegetable oil on older trucks are not having any problems. Many owners who converted to vegetable oil are using a filtration process or have installed a conversion kit. There are other owners who actually make their vegetable oil more viscous by mixing it with fluids. If there is an issue that could result in an engine breakdown, the possible factors could only be speculated on.

This won’t get people excited because there isn’t sufficient evidence that vegetable oil is a benefit. Finding a substitute fuel that has been demonstrated to work effectively would be nice but we don’t have that yet.
